I am in Algebra 2. My teacher is Mrs. Alexander.
Name of Assignment: Linear Programming
Subject: Algebra 2
Facilitator/Teacher: Mrs. Alexander
For this assignment, we studied linear programming. Linear programming is a method to find optimal solutions using linear equations or inequalities in a word problem. It is important to find the keywords in the word problems and write out your system of inequalities to graph your equations. Then we either maximize the profit or minimize the loss. After that, we can find the optimal solution by testing the vertices.
The biggest challenge that our team faced was in the second word problem. We were confused at first because the planes we graphed did not overlap into a triangle on Desmos. We overcame this problem by taking three points from the overlapped polynomial and used those points to maximize the profit and find the optimal solution.
I think that Lana took the leadership position because she began with going over our steps to solve the problems and formed a plan. Positions in a group are helpful to me because without a structure nothing gets done. Generally, if I feel like a group is stalling, I will try and form a plan. My role in the group was to double-check the math, compare the notes, and do anything I could to find something worth going over.
Optimizing profit is probably the most important topic that I have learned about in a high school math class. It is used by businesses to work out the maximum profit or minimum loss of money. As summarized above, the process involves taking units and graphing them to find the proper costs. This is an important topic for success in any retail endeavor.
