Our physics teacher is Mr. Murali. We have been learning about telescopes and waves.

Name of Assignment: Hubble vs. JWST presentation
Subject: Physics
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Kris Murali
Description of Work/Assignment: The purpose of this assignment was to research and present the similarities between the Hubble and JWST telescope.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addresses my communication skills the most, because I researched a difficult subject and try to explain it in a way that could be understood in under 5 minutes. The skills were especially addressed because I knew so little about the subject myself, and had to do extra research just to understand what I was trying to explain.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of translating the Hubble Law into simpler terms because it is not a subject that I have studied before. I thought the law would be much more difficult to understand than it was.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved my information skills by looking for several different websites and explanations to create my own definition. It surprised me that there weren't many sites aimed at people with minimal experience mathematic terms- even the "simple" definitions were made up of many other words that I did not understand.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing this task was understanding the mathematical differences between the Hubble and JWST telescopes. The websites I found didn't make much sense to me, so I searched up most of the terms and phrases used in the definitions, and then researched the new terms gotten from those definitions.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could improve this task, I would have searched for analogies before anything else. The couple analogies I did find helped me understand the subject and explain it to everyone else.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This project was similar to 8th-grade science, where we learned about kinetic energy how it is used.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can use my knowledge on waves in the future, if radiation levels every become more of a worry.

Name of Assignment: What is Physics presentation
Subject: Physics
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Kris Murali
Description of Work/Assignment: The purpose of this assignment was to research and present a branch of physics that interested us. I chose thermodynamics, the study of heat. I added the subject matter needed to study to get the degree, two life examples on thermodynamics, and a fun fact at the end.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addresses my communication skills the most, because I researched a difficult subject and try to explain it in a way that could be understood in under 5 minutes. The skills were especially addressed because I knew so little about thermodynamics myself, and had to do extra research just to understand what I was trying to explain.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of translating the laws of thermodynamics into simpler terms because thermodynamics is not a subject that I have studied before. I thought thermodynamics would just be about studying energy transfers, but the subject also includes topics like isolated systems and entropy.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved my information skills by looking for several different websites and explanations to create my own definition. It surprised me that there were no sites aimed at people with minimal experience in thermodynamics- even the "simple" definitions were made up of many other words that I did not understand.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing this task was understanding the laws of thermodynamics, especially the second one. It seemed like each word in the second law carried an entire other theory behind it. The websites I found didn't make much sense to me, so I searched up most of the terms and phrases used in the definitions, and then researched the new terms gotten from those definitions.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could improve this task, I would have searched for analogies before anything else. I found an analogy that compared the second law of thermodynamics to a messy bedroom, and it helped me understand the subject and explain it to everyone else.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This project was similar to 8th-grade science, where we learned about kinetic energy how it is used. Kinetic energy especially relates to the first law of thermodynamics,
How can you apply this to future learning?
Thermodynamics is a basis for many other branches of physics, so if I ever go into anything remotely technical I will probably end up using thermodynamics. For example, it is important to consider how hot something can get while mixing two chemicals, or working with nuclear parts.

Computer Science
Name of Assignment: 1.8 B exercise
Subject: Computer Science
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Murali
Description of Work/Assignment:
The assignment for this class was to use our programming skills to create a mad lib on Scratch.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I mostly used thinking and problem solving skills for this project, because I programmed two sprites to have a random conversation using trial and error. Informational skills were also practiced, because I got through problems I didn’t understand by doing research on it.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud of the project because I never used to like programming that much, but I enjoyed this assignment and learned a lot from it.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I think my thinking and problem solving skills developed a lot because there were a lot of different variables that went into it. The project took a lot of thought and testing, both of which improve thinking and problem solving skills.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part about completing this task was coming up with a good plot. It is hard to find a story and decide which words should be replaced, and I had to read a lot of Mad Libs to figure out how to form a good narrative.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could improve this work I would add some more movement to the sprites, because right now they are just standing still and talking. This takes a lot of time, but I think it would add to it a lot.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This assignment doesn’t really relate to many assignments from my past because although I have used Scratch before, I never really enjoyed or understood it.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning in a number of ways, because computer programming is important and is only going to become more popular. Being able to code is a huge benefit to a lot of jobs, and learning it is very worthwhile.

Name of Assignment: Human genetics project
Subject: Biology
Facilitator/Teacher: Mrs. Wilson
Skill represented: Information skills: extensive research skills with reliable websites.
Description of Work/Assignment:
This assignment was to write a 3-5 page paper on CRISPR and how it affects us in the modern day. I chose to focus te effect specifically on sickle cell anemia.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud of the project because I've never considered myself much of a biology-bound person, but I found CRISPR to be incredibly intriguing and something I won't forget soon.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
Before this assignment we hadn't had much practice finding our own sources, or even adding sources to our research papers. The assignment introduced something that we couldn't get through most careers without.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part about completing this task was the thesis statement. I didn't fully understand what it was, and didn't make it as strong as I could have.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This assignment is new to me because I have never taken a biology class before or anything remotely similar, but it reminded me of the things my dad talks about with his coworkers because of the high level of focus and experience it requires.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning in a number of ways, because biology is a subject that will be constantly expanding in the future with new discoveries; in other words, this assignment will help me decode the news.
