My chemistry teacher is Ms.S. We have been studying the periodic table of elements and molecules.

Name of Assignment: Physical and Chemical changes comic strip
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Shirkhodai
Description of Work/Assignment: The assignment that I chose for this class was to create a comic strip (At least 11 panels) to give examples and explain physical and chemical changes.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
The two main skills I used for this project were communication skills and self-directional skills. I was able to communicate to the reader through writing, and inform them about the subject. Self-directional skills were used because I planned out a schedule, leaving time each day to work on it.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my plot. I thought it was creative and I put extra work in to finish it. My comic ended up being 20 panels, far more than I thought it was going to be, but I am glad I did it because I was able to give the story a decent ending.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I think
my patience improved in this project, a skill which falls under self-directional. I made a draft before the final project, which took a lot of time and detail. I am still glad I did this though, because I was able to test out methods of drawing, colors, and captions. The only time I started to get impatient was at the end, because my hand was cramping and I was so close to the end of the story, and my drawings started getting a little sloppy.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of the project was the drawing, because I had a whole vision in mind that my hand just wasn't capable of doing. Doing the first draft helped a little, but not enough to make it look as I wanted it to.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
If I wanted to improve my work, I would have looked at other comic drawings to try and help my own, and pay attention to how they drew hands and such. This is what I did for the words; I got the idea of very few word bubbles and lots of captions from the graphic novel Persepolis, although I didn't manage to pull it off as well as the author did.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This comic book relates to the physical and chemical changes we were learning this year, along with the brief overview of it in 8th grade.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning if I ever wanted to write an educational book of my own in a way that will get people to read it.
Name of Assignment: Atomic Model
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Mrs. Shirkhodai
Description of Work/Assignment: We had three weeks to research, design, and create a quality model of an assigned atom. Mine was Tin (Sn).
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I believe that this assignment skills addressed finantia, economic, and business literacy skills because I made appropriate economic choices and didn’t spend too much money on the project.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud of being able to learn and improve my 3-D printing skills. It was difficult to use a program that I had never used before.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
Practicing how and what to research helped improve my financial, economic, and business literacy skills. I was able to create a budget and not go over it.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of the assignment is also what I am the proudest of. I have designed objects on the computer before, but not on that specific program, and I haven’t printed anything out. It took a lot of time to understand how to do it.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could do anything differently, I would record my video earlier in the day. I underestimated how long it would take to get a good video with minimal stutters and mistakes, and I was a little frustrated and tired in the last video.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
The closest thing I have done to this project was designing an animal cell, which is only similar because it was a science model.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply all of the skills I have learned to future learning. I learned a lot about tin- for example, it’s become fairly rare and expensive, and if I ever go into science I could try and find a replacement for it.
